Adult Swim's Premier New Show of 2025 Gets a Substantial Extension for an Additional Two Seasons.

During the fall season, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. However, shortly thereafter, the channel launched a fresh animated series with a distinctly unique vibe. Haha, You Clowns was gentle and comforting, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a laid-back talk show. At a time often defined by bleakness, this show's earnestness resonated deeply and propelled it a surprise hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

On December 18th, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two additional seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to develop the story of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three respectful teenage brothers whose defining trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four central characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the audience of the show who welcomed the series and helped it grow," said Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for seasons to come."

Executive Acclaim

Accompanying the news laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He specifically highlighted the fans who found the show and championed its uniquely offbeat sensibility.

"All of you got behind this new show, rooted for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something surprisingly comfy about watching this endearing family navigate their simple existence.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa expressed his goal to help comedy break out of its prevailing sarcastic tone. He attributed this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we are trapped in,” explained Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we need to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

Future Seasons

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa may well catalyze that very evolution. At a minimum, the renewal ensures audiences more opportunities to experience the gentle humor of the endearing Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
