After multiple episodes of suspense, plots and sabotage, Celebrity Traitors has reached a nail-biting finale
Warning: spoilers ahead - This article discloses details from Celebrity Traitors conclusion
Throughout the season, audiences saw eliminations, double-crosses, intense glares, and an unforgettable incident that cut through all suspense.
Yet on the final evening, the final winner of the inaugural celebrity edition was revealed.
From 19 contestants, only five were left standing: Traitors and loyal players facing off for the prize.
Soon, the field narrowed to only three contenders: the final players.
In the end, comedian Alan Carr emerged as the winner, in a shocking result that broke the internet and made him tearful.
"It's been tearing me apart, my apologies," he declared, admitting to the remaining faithfuls that he'd always been a traitor. "I'm an awful human being."
"You played amazingly," they consoled him. "Everything's fine."
Online platforms immediately exploded with this development. "Most awful traitor ever being the best traitor ever," commented a viewer.
"There could not have been a better conclusion," stated a different person, while a third described it as "the television highlight of the year."
The organization he selected, Neuroblastoma UK, will receive the entire winnings, with the final pot amounting to eighty-seven thousand five hundred pounds.
Alan Carr's transformation from giggle liability to cold-hearted killer was among the most memorable aspects of the season.
But his win still shocked viewers surprised, as noted by industry observers.
"The thought of him, among everyone, pulling off an expert performance in deception felt just as probable as him keeping composure through his comedy routines."
On subsequent discussions, fellow players explained the reasons nobody had ever really suspected him.
"He might have come down to the morning meal in a green cloak and I still wouldn't have thought he was a traitor. His humor distracted me," a player said.
"The majority didn't vote for him because how does one eliminate a person so loveable?" questioned another celebrity.
Carr said he had "absolutely loved" his time on the show.
"I want to do it again... I don't think it would work a second time!"
The final installment was lengthened to over an hour on television. There was an unusual opening than typical episodes, as all the celebs were aware who would appear at the breakfast table.
Viewers heard particularly inspiring, and very un-Traitors-esque soundtrack, as we recapped some moments from each of the finalists' experience in the game.
True to form, the comedian provided unforgettable quotes.
"Let's face it, I started this game a bit of an anxious mess. I've betrayed some really good friends to save myself, I've murdered national treasures openly. Apparently I'm a better liar and traitor than I thought."
Meanwhile, a different player noted that reaching the conclusion was "significantly more pressure than playing for England", while another said he was "completely amazed" to have lasted this long.
In the beginning in the episode, several players appeared to be making a bid to become the new style icon of the castle, replacing an earlier departed style leader.
Carr emerged at breakfast resembling a 1950s US chat show host in patterned burgundy attire, before changing into a bejewelled white suit.
But he was out-jacketted by a fellow player's burgundy formal wear. What a look.
Next up was the challenge, with the remaining contestants getting on board a locomotive called - of course - The Traitors Express.
The challenge saw them destroying portraits of former contestants. Spare a thought for one participant who was hit in the head THREE times by the cover of a substantial container.
Soon after, the moment arrived for the roundtable.
The deceivers made a pact in advance, vowing to stick together. "We've progressed significantly, I'm not going to betray him," stated one, while the other simply laughed.
However, one adhered to their agreement. Yet, managing to stay unnoticed for the majority of the competition, their partner still received the majority elimination votes.
The remaining traitor looked like he was in a world of pain to be the final deceiver remaining. "Now I'm on my own, I'm frightened," he said. "I'm unpredictable, without direction."
Social media and onlookers were equally disappointed.
"I did NOT want that player to be banished. A truly loveable traitor," said a commentator.
"Your legacy will remain in Traitors history," posted another user.
However, there remained little opportunity to focus on this departure. Before long, the game reached the endgame - which was the moment everyone anticipated.
The last players gathered around the ceremonial fire. Meanwhile, the partnership collapsed, just when it was most crucial, in a truly WTF moment.
One contestant was eliminated in dramatic fashion - after a shock vote from their ally, who turned against them.
"This pains me to be stabbed in the back last minute in that manner," remarked the ousted contestant. Subsequently, it was revealed that if they ever communicate, the betrayed player refers to the other by a betrayer's name.
Finally, only three contestants were still competing: the last participants.
One player, appearing quite pleased, voted to end the competition. So did another, and everything depended on the final participant, who did the same - which meant that the traitor emerged victorious.
For observers, the moment where the other players comforted the champion was "beautiful TV". "I predict it could be in the running for outstanding scene at next year's awards," they said.
Fortunately, the champion soon recovered from his emotional outburst, and could finally appreciate his victory.
"What a rollercoaster. I thought I was terrible at deception, my expressions gave me away and here I am a winner," he said.
And he even made light of the memorable elimination - his best friend in an early episode - by reaching over the host in the concluding moments and touching her cheek.
"There's something on your face," he said, with his trademark giggle.
The last few weeks of celebrity gossiping, scheming and the occasional unexpected moments may feel like one big crazy jumbled dream. But it really did all happen. It will be remembered fondly.
