Dive Into the Revamped Legendary Journey: A Free Trial for DQ7 Reimagined Debuts Soon.

Fans anticipating the launch of Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined won't have to wait too much longer. A free-to-play playable preview will release on January 7th, providing a substantial look into the game's opening hours. Critically, any progress earned within this demo will be able to be imported directly into the main game upon its eventual launch.

Beyond Just a Simple Remake: A Complete Overhaul

This title represents a comprehensive reimagining of the iconic 2000 RPG, first titled Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past. Taking a distinct departure from other Dragon Quest remakes, such as the recently launched HD-2D versions, this reimagining adopts a charming three-dimensional art style. Environments are designed to evoke detailed model sets, with protagonists featuring a whimsical chibi-esque look.

"Considering the previous remake, the main quest was still quite long. So we reached a decision that we wanted to condense the story, [and] craft an adventure for modern gamers."

Key Gameplay Enhancements & Modernizations

Square Enix have introduced several enhancements to refresh the classic gameplay loop. These include:

  • Streamlined Overworld Encounters: Similar to contemporary RPGs, low-level foes are now dispatched directly on the overworld map eliminating the need for entering a full turn-based battle screen.
  • Adjustable Combat Pace: Players can speed up battle sequences to quickly get past simpler fights.
  • New Job Mechanics: One brand new job class has been created for this remake. Additionally, party members now have the capacity to master a second vocation, greatly enhancing strategic options.

These refinements are designed to tackle a key the 2000 title's common criticisms: its daunting scope. That initial main quest was known to take over 100 hours to see through. The reimagined version was expressly reworked to improve flow and reduce perceived bloat.

Save the Date: Demo and Final Release Details

Interested players can begin exploring the reimagined world of Dragon Quest VII firsthand when the free demo becomes available on Wednesday, January 7th. The complete game, Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined, will then be set to release on 5th February 2026. It will be available on a broad array of systems, such as Switch, Switch 2, PS5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
