Jennifer Lawrence Expresses Discussing Trump Would ‘Worsen the Situation’ Dividing the Country Apart

The star has revealed that she no longer feels suitable to comment publicly regarding the Trump administration, fearing it could worsen unhelpful debate and deepen rifts throughout the nation.

‘I Don’t Really Know If I Should’, Explains Lawrence

During a discussion, Lawrence reflected, “When Trump was first in office, I believed I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off. But it’s become clear, over multiple voting cycles, celebrities do not make a difference at all on who people vote for.”

She continued, “What’s the point? I’m just sharing my opinion on something that’s going to add fuel to a fire tearing the country apart.”

Shifting Views

Lawrence has previously been open about backing Republican and Democratic contenders over the years. Raised by conservative Republicans in Kentucky, she cast her ballot for John McCain in 2008 prior to switching to the left-leaning politics and revealing she recognized during the Obama era that backing conservatives was voting against her individual liberties as a female citizen.

Previous Comments

Earlier in her career, she commented that a Trump victory might signal “the end of the world” and endorsed Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential race. During the most recent election, she lent her support to Kamala Harris, “because I think she’s an excellent choice and I know that she will make every effort to protect abortion access.”

Celebrity Views

Lawrence was joined by many in the entertainment industry in her rejection of Donald Trump as a returning figure, but the limited influence celebrities have over the public choices was highlighted by Trump’s victory.

“This upcoming term feels different,” noted the actress about his administration. “Since he said what he was going to do. We knew what he did for the previous administration. He was very clear. And that’s what we chose.”

Current Projects

Lawrence is highlighting Die, My Love, Lynne Ramsay’s drama in which she plays a recent parent who faces challenges with her mental health in rural Montana. At a media event for the project in Venice, the star spoke about Israel’s bombings in Gaza: “I feel fear. It’s horrifying. What’s happening is equivalent to a humanitarian crisis and it’s horrible.”

Wider Issues

She continued by stating that she was disheartened by “the disrespect in the discourse of U.S. political debates at present and how that is going to be accepted to the kids right now. It’s going to be normal to them that leaders are untruthful.”

Lawrence aimed to shift anger about the conflict to decision-makers rather than entertainers. “Keep attention on the people in charge,” she said, which was interpreted as a allusion to the then-recent pledge supported by thousands of entertainment industry figures to boycott certain cultural organizations.

Relatable Experiences

Jennifer Lawrence, who won an Oscar early in her career for her performance in the acclaimed film, is attracting awards attention for her portrayal in the new film. Even though Ramsay has rejected the narrative being interpreted as one of postpartum depression and psychosis, the actress shared that she connected with aspects of her film narrative after the arrival of her second son, soon after production wrapped.

“I felt anxiety for my son,” she said, “imagining every worst-case scenario, and then second-guessing everything that I was attempting. I was receiving counseling, but I began using a drug called that medicine and I continued it for two weeks and it was effective.”

Film Challenges

The actor also spoke regarding the empowering aspect of shooting revealing sequences in the project while she was some months pregnant and limited physically.

“It feels nice,” she said, of being forced to cast off vanity. “I mean, I occasionally wonder where I’m like, What separates me between me and a prostitute? But it isn’t a major concern.”
