Jurgen Klopp admits a return to lead Liverpool is plausible in theory.
Jurgen Klopp, who departed from Liverpool in 2024, remarked that a future comeback is a possibility. The 58-year-old, following a hugely successful near-decade reign which brought Champions League success and the Premier League crown since 1990, now holds roles in a global football capacity with the Red Bull group and as an advisor for the DFL.
Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
The club claimed the league title under Arne Slot, though countless followers who adore the manager would embrace the idea of his potential comeback. Speaking candidly, he explained to Steven Bartlett: “I stated I refuse to lead another team in England. Therefore in case it's my former club...yes. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“At 58 years old, that means I might decide down the line, it's uncertain. Do I have to make the decision today? If so, I wouldn't return. Luckily, it's not necessary. I'll simply watch what lies ahead.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
Questioned regarding which situations must arise to tempt his return to the touchline, he revealed he isn't eager toward coming back. “I don’t even know exactly, I enjoy my current role,” he commented. “I don’t miss coaching; I avoid standing during downpours for lengthy sessions; I don’t miss going to interviews four times, three times a week or constant media duties a week.
“I don’t miss the dressing room in that context, yet sharing a meal with the team enjoying conversation, I appreciate that. Success was frequent meaning regularly positive atmosphere at the club. Remaining with me is Van Dijk's laughter ringing in my ears to illustrate.”
Commending Arne Slot
He spoke highly regarding Arne Slot, acknowledging his role for the tweaks which secured the championship in the previous season. They've been defeated a string of losses in all competitions following significant transfers, yet he dismissed the notion of it representing a slump.
“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, doubters will be silenced if you use the wrong words. An outstanding player. Ekitike, superb talent. This is a well-built well-judged squad. You don’t have to worry about Liverpool, they will be fine.”
Heartfelt Words for Diogo Jota
He shared movingly on the loss of Diogo Jota, whom he brought in in 2020, along with the consequences for the team. The forward died tragically in a road accident with his brother in July.
“How do you replace such an individual? It’s not about his footballing ability, it's his character. I can’t imagine the squad missing him. I find it difficult to discuss about it. It was an incredible shock for his teammates also. No one within the club would cite it to justify results yet it's the reality. You walk in a dressing room where he was omnipresent. Coping with it emotionally is not easy. Overwhelming.”
