Line of Duty Confirmed for 7th Series on the British Broadcaster
The acclaimed crime series AC-12 will make a comeback for its seventh installment, announced by the BBC.
An upcoming six-part season created by Jed Mercurio starts production in Northern Ireland in the coming months, according to the network.
The actress shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, saying she was "thrilled" about the show's renewal. Her co-star added, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together next year."
The last season concluded in 2021 with a final episode that drew in over 17 million viewers. Speculation about a new season have been circulating for some time, but confirmation only arrived this week.
Fresh Obstacles for The Team
The seventh season will open with AC-12 no longer existing and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to production details.
Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain tasked to combat corruption within the police force.
Their work "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, the trio are assigned their "most sensitive case to date."
New Character and Complex Case
A new character, Det Insp Dominic Gough, described as a charming officer known for takedowns of criminal networks, is accused of abusing his position to act as a offender.
However, this investigation could be a deliberate distraction from a bigger threat still operating in the background, plot details suggested.
Speaking about the renewal, the creator said: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the show's fans."
"It's an honor to have had so many fans track the developments of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we are thrilled to be coming back for a new installment."
Mercurio continued: "Corruption in this country was thought to be over while the series was off air, so I've been forced to use my imagination."
Actor Responses
Martin Compston called appearing in the police drama as "a job of a lifetime".
"Beyond the show's success but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."
"I'm excited to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he added.
The Nottingham-born actress remarked: "It goes without saying I'm so excited Line of Duty is returning! Eager to work with the creator, Compston and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll see you soon!"
Adrian Dunbar commented: "While anticipating the AC-12 days of Christmas, how exciting it is to know that the central trio will be back filming soon."
"Delighted with the announcement and looking forward to those mercurial twists and turns."
Series Legacy
Line of Duty launched in 2012 and evolved into one of the most popular TV dramas of the past ten years, featuring notable actors such as Stephen Graham.
The BBC haven't revealed when the new season will premiere.
The conclusion of season six brought the long-running storyline about the search for kingpin known as "the mysterious H" to a close, and the creative team said at the moment there were no intentions for additional seasons.
Nevertheless, the network confirmed on this week that a seventh series is now being produced.
