Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Retains Liverpool's Support After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
Arne Slot acknowledged that it's natural for doubts to be asked about his position following another heavy loss against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their ninth defeat in 12 games, marking the team's worst run since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I'm confident, things are alright, I've received a lot of support from management,” Slot stated.
“It would be nice to change things and earn three points naturally but when you're working as a coach and underperforming then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He noted, “I accept my situation. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a challenging situation but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to expand on his discussions with the club's leadership, the head coach revealed:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me every single minute of the day to say they back me.”
He added, “During our regular exchanges I sense the belief. However I haven’t spoken to them after this match yet so we'll see.”
Familiar Problems and Squad Reaction
The manager lamented known failings from his squad in their Champions League loss, namely wasted chances and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones said.
“It's simply not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond being angry inside. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It's tough because I play for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool since I was young.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team going through a phase of this nature with outcomes this poor.”
Jones stated, “However we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And until it is removed, we’re always going to battle.”
“We’re going to try to get this team return to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all once more the values of this club and why people call it the greatest side in the planet.”
“At this moment, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
