Slot Provides No Excuses and Pledges to Plot Route From Slump
Arne Slot declared he needed to “look at myself” following Liverpool suffered a 6th loss in 7 Premier League matches at home against Forest and affirmed he would find a solution from the champions’ slump.
Forest, in the relegation zone before kick off, produced the largest victory at Anfield in their club records as the Merseyside club fell to an eighth defeat in eleven fixtures in all competitions. The most expensive domestic acquisition, the Swedish striker, was again anonymous and the home side contended the defender's opener should have been disallowed for comparable grounds to the captain's disallowed effort against City before the national team pause. But Slot conceded the responsibility stopped with him and made no excuses.
“No one wishes to hear me now speaking about officiating calls if you are defeated 3-0 at home to Nottingham Forest,” stated the Reds' boss. “I should look at myself first and my team, but it does show you how a score can change the momentum of a match. Earlier I was just hoping for us to score a goal. Afterwards we hardly created anything.
“Of course there is a path forward, especially with the quality players we have. No matter if you win or lose when you look back you are always thinking: ‘Where can we do better, in what aspects can we make changes?’ but that is something else from doubting your abilities.
“I want to emphasise I am responsible for the current defeats. You are responsible when you are victorious but also liable when you are losing. I can not provide sufficient excuses for us to have the results we have. That is not acceptable and I am to blame for that.”
The team's performance unravelled as Slot introduced multiple offensive changes when pursuing the match. “It was the identical away at Forest the previous campaign,” he said. “I substituted Ibou [Ibrahima Konaté] off and brought on the Portuguese forward and he found the net straight away to make it 1-1. Then it was brave, currently it’s likely unwise.”
Liverpool last lost back-to-back at Anfield Premier League fixtures against Nottingham Forest in 1963. The last time they lost consecutive top-flight games by a three-goal scoreline was in the mid-60s.
Slot commented: “It was extremely poor. Playing on home soil, losing 3-0 regardless of which opponent you face is a terrible result. Surprising if you consider the opening 30 minutes of the match. I haven’t seen us creating so much in the initial half-hour maybe the whole campaign, and the initial occasion they entered in our box they found the back of the net.
“It did not happen against Manchester City, but in all other fixture we have been the controlling side and were capable to create opportunities. Recently it is nearly constantly that we fail to convert our chances and the attempts we concede go in.”
