The President Invites Families of Shot National Guard Members to the Presidential Residence
Former President Donald Trump revealed on Sunday that he has asked the family of a Guard member killed last week to come to the presidential home.
He noted that he conversed with her parents and they were “heartbroken”.
Information on the Tragic Event
Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was lost her life in a shooting on Wednesday in DC.
Her colleague, Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in grave state.
Vigils across West Virginia have taken place in their memory.
Presidential Invitation
The president said he’s talked about a White House visit for the loved ones of both soldiers of the West Virginia Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a hard experience, visit the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” Trump addressed the press. “And in the same way with him, whether he recovers or not.”
Public Reaction
Community members gathered over the weekend at the high school in West Virginia to honor Beckstrom.
Both the soldiers had been serving with the West Virginia National Guard as part of Trump’s government program to assist law enforcement in DC.
Paying Tribute to Sarah Beckstrom
“She was the type of pupil that teachers desired. She conducted herself with quiet strength, a bright grin and a positive energy that lifted people around her,” Hankins, the head of Beckstrom’s previous school, informed the press. “She was sweet, considerate and always willing to support those in need.”
Service arrangements for Sarah are still being arranged.
Judicial Actions and Policy Adjustments
Authorities have charged a 29-year-old suspect with a charge of homicide and two counts of violent assault while carrying a weapon.
The tragedy caused the Trump administration to suspend asylum applications and halt issuing entry permits to owners of Afghan passports.
Status of Wolfe
Wolfe, a resident of the city, began his service in February 2019 and is a graduate of his local high school, as reported by the AP.
He remains under medical supervision and is “in a critical fight”, the state’s governor Patrick Morrisey stated on a news program.
Attorney general the attorney general told the program that she planned to meet with the family.
Legacy of Sarah Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from her hometown, completed her education from her high school in 2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a law enforcement officer with excellence, per the state guard.
“She had a lot of goodness and she absolutely had courage,” the governor told the gathering at the memorial. “Though her time ended too soon, she has created a legacy that’s going to last forever.”
