The Red Devils Set to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, has been a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League team.
Her exit from Munich has been anticipated after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the club's supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top strikers. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the move have now been completed.
Consistent Goal Threat to Boost the Attack
The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a significant boost to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Carrington
The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when United seem to be gathering positive momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has brought further business:
- The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.
On the midfielder's new deal, a club official stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
