The Reform UK leader Accuses Educators of ‘Poisoning Our Kids’ on Race Issues
Nigel Farage has asserted that teachers would go on strike within weeks a Reform UK election victory, accusing them of “harming young minds” by instructing children that African-Caribbean youth are oppressed and Caucasian students are perpetrators.
At a gathering for a private US Christian college, Farage outlined his viewpoint on British schools, stating that the “radical left-wing” had “taken over schooling”.
“I expect a walkout by educators very quickly after winning the next general election,” Farage commented in response to questions.
“They are corrupting young minds. They are telling them to be ashamed of their country. They are telling little Johnny, who’s eight, who is black that he is a victim and little Oliver, who is white, who is eight that he is a perpetrator. They create division, instead of fostering unity. They are feeding this harmful mindset.”
Reacting to these assertions, Daniel Kebede rejected the notion that the schools were under Marxist influence as “absurd”. Kebede noted that any strikes must relate to educators’ working conditions, and doubted whether the party would target these right after taking office.
“The politician has crafted his public life on dog-whistle politics and currently, similar to other figures, he is lining up teachers and their unions for a conflict,” Kebede stated.
“This is highly reckless. I don’t – and nor does my union – advocate such divisive theories as he’s suggesting … Should he become prime minister he would undermine state services, including education … and the outcome would be catastrophic for education and children.”
Reform, which is leading the polls by a significant margin, has provided limited specifics on its educational plans and does not appear to have designated an education lead.
However, his comments suggested the party would overhaul the educational framework. Farage declared: “We have got a massive job with education – truly monumental. And, it won’t happen quickly; it requires years, a long-term effort to reform.”
He stated that younger generations are receptive to analytical thought, but older youth were “completely lost”.
Honoring a conservative activist, Farage said: “All I want education to do to teach critical thinking – to instruct people that there are two points of view and you make up your own mind rather than current practices where views are labeled good or bad. This is a huge undertaking in both Britain and America.”
The party has conflicted with the UK’s largest teaching union, after Kebede called the party “extremist and prejudiced” and dismissed Farage as “a poundshop Donald Trump”.
Farage has accused the union head with being “an avowed radical” … someone who is absolutely determined that young minds be corrupted at school, their minds should be poisoned about everything to do with this country” and maintained that the organization seeks to brainwash teenagers against Reform.
Roughly a million individuals work in schools in the UK, with educators comprising half and the others teaching assistants and support staff. The leading teachers’ organization has about 450,000 members.
National strikes over teacher pay and conditions in recent years caused widespread disruption in educational institutions and extensive missed instruction for students.
At the US event, the Reform leader also vowed to promote the online educational material of the institution in the UK. He stated such groups were “key to resistance”, noting: “I mean this. I’ll assist attract vast numbers of young people to these educational programs. I make that commitment tonight and I will follow through.”
The institution, a small private Christian college, offers free courses. Its website states: “Comprehensive learning is vital for well-being and to perpetuate the blessings of civil and religious liberty. It offers these beautiful courses for free to every interested learner.”
