This Swine Life: Hog Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami-Dade Leader.

It might not have been at the identical stature as granting clemency to Thanksgiving turkeys, but the county's top official had her own ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This pig is innocent. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued from the start of the beginning of a second term in office.

“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life away from worry.”

The gathering, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was established to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The pig, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “six seven” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The craze became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently declared “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.

A Peaceful Retirement

Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.

“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said Eric Castellanos, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It captures the spirit of Miami: vibrant, varied, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Every time, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”

Participants enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and cafecito as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
